GO READ Nowadays BY MY KATEMONSTER! Or, as you people know her, celtic_cookie. It's SAM, retraining the hick out of himself for Stanford and it hurts and is awesome and you all need to go read it now.

First off? Go read This Is The Sun Gone Down right now. It's an awesome fic featuring Sam with DID.

Now for the second part of this post. If I were to try and write a fic like this, with Sam with DID, should I ask the author of the above fic for permission?

Keep reading before you answer (it would also help you to read the fic too, as otherwise this might not make a lot of sense).

I know the author doesn't own the idea, if that were all it was I wouldn't even bother thinking about asking. See, my problem is that the author does a lot of things right in the fic and if I wrote one there's a real chance that to someone who doesn't click the Wiki links I would put in the author's notes it would look like I had basically ripped off this girl's fic. Some of you know this, some don't--it all depends on how long you've had me friended--but my stepdad has DID. The fic I write would be heavily influenced by my own personal knowledge of him and his personalities and how they work.

One of CJ's--my stepdad's--main personalities is Brick. Brick is the main protector personality; he's tough, he kicks ass, he scares the other altars and doesn't talk much. Among the other alters are: a teenage girl, a Casanova, a math genius, an artist (several actually, each with a completely different style of drawing) and a little boy. The thing about the alters is that you can tell who is there if you know what to look for; the body is held very differently by each one; they have different handwriting; different names and memories; different ages and tastes, and different ways/manners of speaking.

If you've read the fic then you probably see my problem.

The personalities aren't identical to the ones in her fic, the girl is less bitchy and more shy from being locked away by the others, the Casanova is actually kinda like Dean, thinks he's smooth as hell and has an ego the size of Canadia-land, the math genius is endlessly patient and doesn't mind not coming out very often, etc, etc. But the very bases are the same and to the untrained eye my fic could possibly look like an unofficial remix.

So, what do you guys think? Should I, say, point the author here and ask her if she minded or should I just write it?

ETA: Sooper sekrit option 3 has just been done, I have just edited my comment to her to inform her that she has inspired my to write a DID!Sam fic that does not take place in her universe but may seem similar at times.

This is a fic called Defect. It is done by some person whose name I cannot remember. It is long and Supernatural/Criminal Minds and it is Gen and plotty and I have spent the last like... Four? Five? Some amount of words reading it. I cannot stress enough how badly you have to read this. The Dean voice is so good you guys. And Bobby! And Ellen! And Sammy! And Reid! And Gideon! I've only seen like, two episodes of CM but had no problem at all following this. GO READ IT NAO, KTHNX.

Smallville fandom makes me want to hit it very hard. We don't hate Lana because she's Asian, we hate her because she's stupid and weak AND KEEPING US FROM ALL THE HOT GAY SEX, DAMMIT.

I want to write SamandJess fic but recently my Sammy has been very VERY gay. Even more gay than usual. Girly parts are making him squick out. Which sucks because I have like a page and a half of Dean teaching Sam about girls through experience and while he was A-okay with going down on her before now he's getting all "ew pussy, no!" and that's putting a big dent in that fic because, hi the whole point is Dean and Sammy and random girly parts attached to random girlies.

It's funny, I'm coherent enough to know what I'm typing and to know that I will be facepalming later but I'm just too fucking tires to give a shit. She says as she goes back to fix her typos like the good little OCD she is.

Writing is hard, you guys. I've started like, a bazillion and a half things but I can't seem to end ANYTHING. I have no idea how the Stanford!Sam fic actually managed to shove it's way out and BTW I don't recognize the name of that fic until I look at it because I am lame like that.

I am two weeks behind on Dexter and I should watch it but I just can't seem to make myself for some reason.

Jared had a crush on Chad when they met because Chad loves his puppies and Jensen knows about it but he's not allowed to tell Chad It's okay though because Chad knows and he ignores it and teases Jared twice as hard about other stuff because he's a great big douchebag but he hearts his puppies and Jared's one of them too now. Chad told Jensen that he knew a good swamp when he found out Jensen was with Jared because he's a loyal friend and wanted Jensen to know he wasn't gonna hurt Jared at all. Period end of sentence. Sentence is a really hard word to spell when you are looking at the screen and not at the keys.

It's my week at spn_themes this week. I had finally started setting up a system of sorting my saved fics by theme and such but, sadly, they're all stuck on Sam I and so I am back to hunting through my insane amount of bookmarks and trying to find four or more fics with a common theme (that hasn't been done in the last month or so).

Anyone got any ideas for themes?
