P.S. Didn't that use to be a comm for finding specific fics? When did this turn into "rec me all the first time fics you know" as opposed to "does anyone know the fic where Sam and Dean have had sex and then Sam gets all depressed because Dean won't go near him anymore"?

I second every single thing you said about spnstoryfinders. Just ... dude, what the hell? I've seen more than a couple "Rec me your favorite story ever" fics and I have to restrain myself from saying something I'll regret in the comments.

And did you ever notice that the vast majority of people who make posts on there asking for, like, stories where Sam turns into a baguette because they just discovered they're allergic to yeast and isn't that awful are fans who just seem to come out of nowhere? I rarely if ever recognize anybody requesting fic on there, although it's entirely possible these are the people who hang out on dean_sam and supernatural_tv and the reason I don't know 'em is because I wouldn't touch either comm with a ten-foot pole, but still.

I totally agree with you about spnstoryfinders! If one more person tells everyone that their boyfriend just cheated on them so please rec them all stories where Sam is turned on by jello -- I am going to scream.

I do keep it on my friendslist so I must be amused by it deep, deep down, but it definitely annoys me all the same :D

I keep it on my FList for the rare occasion that someone is missing a specific fic (in part because the things people remember about fics is just insane sometimes) but for the most part it just annoys me.

WORD. I love the comm as a place for finding random stories that I haven't seen before, but lately I've just been completely skimming over most of the posts because I get halfway into long-winded explinations of why someone needs a certain type of story and my eyes just start rolling into the back of my head. Okay, so you need romance? Why can't you just say that, and keep your explinations of why you need it to your own journal??

I do like sometimes that it's like a big rec comm, 'cause sometimes people as for a particular kink or storyline that's not easily searchable otherwise, and it's kind of an easy way to get recs in various genres or for a particular character or whatever. But it does seem like it's been clogged up with those kinds of posts lately.

And man, every time I see an explanation I avoid listing anything JUST to spite the fuckers. What could possibly fucking make them think we give a shit about them? They aren't on our FLists, the comm is.

I think it's the "list me all of your favorite Wincest fics" or "tell me the best J2 you've written" that really bug me, and clog up my flist. I don't care if you've been out of the country for the last six months or whatever, there are comms and your flist for finding general recs like that. Or just the old fashioned way of, you know, reading.

I am really, really sorry you are sooo worked up about the tales of woe on spnstoryfinders. I, myself, have to sit back and laugh at the excuses they feel they need to justify their requests. But it doesn't stop me from trolling through and helping myself to some of the rec's. ;)
Nevertheless, I respect and understand your feelings on this matter.

As for iconmakers, there can never be enough! I'm an icon junkie. Even though I am only allowed 15, I love 'em! Call me crazy(and I know you will), but I'm always looking for the next perfect one.

I think the quality of moderation has gone down in spnstoryfinders, which makes sense since it has so many posts a day. I've noticed the epic personal prefaces as well. I still read them because frankly I find the "summaries" fucking therapeutic. I mean, after reading does anyone know that AU when Jensen has asthma and Jared has to save him from the slave trade how can you not have a fucking huge smile on your face?

The one where Jared saves Jensen from the slave trade is an awesome fic though! The one where Jared has something asthma-like and Jensen has to enter the sex slave trade to save him is awesome too (both are Post-Apoc AUs that I can point too if you'd like)! I always find it amazing what weird details people remember about fics or, in some cases, how such good fic can sound SO BAD when they're broken down to the very basest of elements.

Also? You get a pass because you wanted to dress up. Apparently no one else does. BOO on them.

spnstoryfinders isn't even on my SPN filter anymore. I'm really sick of having to scroll over entries that are almost a page long looking for 14 types of fic, without actually looking for a fic. The mods over there need to get on that.
