iPod WOES

Okay, so I have a really, really old iPod, right? iPod Classic, 20GB, thick as a brick.

I've been having some issue with it lately and I called Apple about it and, long story short, they told me John's on his last legs and I may as well get a new one.

MOG, SO MUCH FUCKING MONEY, WHAT THE SHIT, DUDES?

So. Anyone know of a good free program that will let me move my music off John (the iPod) and onto Sam (the Gateway)?

So now, not only do I have to save for a car, and a TV—since mine is on it's last legs too— but now there's another $250 in there.

Fucking ugh, man. This isn't even counting the little things like food, rent, my phone, bus passes, etc.

FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIL, ADULTHOOD. FAIL.

Here via a friendslist but um, as long as you have the same account on your Gateway as whatever you've used to transfer onto your iPod, it should transfer the songs you've paid for and downloaded through the iTunes store. Not so sure what to tell you about your music otherwise but my 'paid for' collection that I keep on my PC went right onto my laptop. (Which just meant that I got about 600 Depeche Mode songs and little else. Eheh...)

Yeah, the only problem is that I don't buy songs from iTunes; this is stuff DLd and ripped from old CDs.

I use music rescue. http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/musicrescue/
The free version has all the features, the only catch is that when transferring it pauses every 50 songs and gives a little pop up about buying the full version. Kind of annoying if you're transferring a lot of files because you can't just leave it alone to finish, but a good program overall.

Never tried it but I believe the music files just pop into a hidden file on your iPod. So you just have to set your files to show hidden folders and you should be able to pull the music off your iPod. The other catch is that iTunes changes the file names, though, so they'll all have random numbers instead of the original file names. ~_~

Yeah, you'll need to do this too - the file names get messed up, but the ID3 tags are preserved. If you go into iTunes and look under info, you can fix them if they're not there yet.

Easy. Turn on disk mode, then just copy it off like you would any disk.

Also, I recommend SanDisk. Maybe this one?

micro sd expansion slot, you can get another 2 gigs for about $10.

I have a program called iDump (I know, stupid, right?) that lets me take songs from my iPod to my laptop, even though my iPod is connected to a different computer. Does that make sense?

You can use the money I gave you for season 3 dvds (assuming you haven't bought them already) and put it towards your ipod. ♥

Oh hey, just saw a good sale at newegg - It's sandisk, but plays multiple video and audio formats:

SanDisk Sansa e200 1.8" Black 4GB MP3 Player Sansa e260

It's only $44, and you can get an 8 gig card to add storage for another ~$20.
