Do you know how many years I didn't understand that whole "The Queen is dead, long live the Queen" thing?

So my laptop, Sam Winchester HP is refusing life support. I went out and bought him a new charger--eighty fucking bucks for it--and he is still refusing it. Tomorrow I'm gonna pack him and it up and take them to Fry's Electronics to see if he needs a new battery or what.

In the meantime though? I've had this broken Dell for a while (messed up harddrive, very tragic) that I haven't been able to do anything with until today. Phil called Dell yesterday and sweet-talked them into sending me a free harddrive, a free powercord for it, an the screws to keep the harddrive in.

The harddrive arrived today.

Ladies and gentlemen I am now posting from Sam Winchester Dell, and lo, he is beautiful. Unfortunately he is also a widescreen and thus none of my saved wallpapers fit his 1280x800 ass. Anyone wanna make me a pretty? Anyone? Eh, fine.

Also? I'm still tightening up my Big Bang, right? And I wrote some Impala!Porn for it last night and namegoeshere drew me Impala!Sex. And then I was telling my other beta, alazysod, about how I wanna make a mix now for it--not a soundtrack, just a list of all the songs and/or bands I reference in it and she said she'd do the art for it! And then namegoeshere got home today and had drawn a whole bunch of random stuff in the story on a plane.

...Do you think it would be weird or rude or against the rules for me to link to them? I mean, neither of them signed up for the challenge or anything, they're my betas, but they did/are doing art for the story...

Yeah. Anyway. I'm gonna try and make me a wallpaper or something.

Oh, also? I do not know the season three spoiler, nor do I wish to know. Spoil me and watch how fast you're off my FList.

I think I know why you never understood it. it's because the quote actually goes:

"The king is dead, long live the queen."

You are correct. "The king is dead, long live the king" is the original version - it comes from the legal concept that the King never dies - just Henry VIII or Mary II or whichever sovereign person is holding the office at the time.

So, one king has died, but the next ascends to the throne immediately (this is the case in most, though not all, European monarchies). The position of King, however, is never empty.

It's also a simulateous way to mourn the dead Monarch and celebrate the new one.

King or Queen can be used in either place, depending on the sex of the Monarch.

When Elizabeth II's grandfather died, it would have been, "The king is dead, long live the king," when her father died, "The king is dead, long live the queen," and when she passes it will be, "The queen is dead, long live the king."

i've heard King....queen and queen....king and sometimes even king....king.

I think that quote'd only be right if it was talking about Mary Tudor being dead and Elizabeth I replacing her. dunno, me = history nut. And my dad has a queen victoria obsession, so he has the king....queen quote plastered all over his house. Who knows. just tellin' ya what I do know ^_^

Awww, sorry to hear your laptop died. It's hard to let go! But how friggin' cool is it that you got all the new stuff free from Dell?! I know next to nothing on how to make pretties. Or I'd make you one. sorry about that ;-( I hate not knowing how to make all the cool stuff-lol. But if I knew I totally would ;-)
On spoilers-I am a spoiler ho-but never post that in my lj-everyone else does enough-why bother. *Read-too lazy to even think about it* LOL. So no worries from me-ever on that score. If I talk about the show-it's usually under a cut anyway. It's rude when others haven't seen the eppy yet-due to time zones-so yeah.

Poor Sam, I bitched and moaned and complained about him all the time but I really do love him. I'm probably gonna take him to the doctor tomorrow and see what's wrong with him.

And most of my FList is pretty good with spoilers but I figure if potthead is already making icons about it it's only a matter or time before someone spoils me.

On the spolers-crap. I never thought about the icons from them. But on the whole I am lazy and don't load alot of the ones I snag until weeks(if not months)later-lmao! What can I say? I procrastinate ;-) But yeah, normally mine are pretty old!

Yeah, that would suck. I try to think about that when I reply-because I wait so long to add my icons-I never really use spoilry ones at that time. Not everyone pays attention-so I really hope they don't ;-P

I'm not sure about linking to it all because Big Bang was through sign-ups and artists choosing their stories and such. So I don't know if it's against the rules or anything.
