Okay. So. 14,016 words into my Big Bang and I am so very completely fucked up that it's not fair.

Man. My entire Big Bang is completely OOC now. It's not even AU, because after the immediate take-off from Nightshifter at the beginning there are no other episodes even referenced.

But the entire premise of my Big Bang is that Sam and Dean are running for their lives from the FBI. They are worried about getting arrested, they are worried about going to jail/prison, they want to avoid it.

I think this episode has proved that they really aren't. They got caught on purpose and thrown into a detention center. Dean had no worries about this at all. Sam only had small worries, hardly any.

If I keep it as it is it's so OOC it almost makes me sick.

If I change it I lower my word count again taking out the first three or four pages and have to at least mention Madison, because she was a big deal to Sam. Oh yeah, and I might not make the word count in time to get counted for Big Bang.

Okay. Help me, please? Should I keep it or change it?

The reason they weren't worried (Sam was worried that teh whole thing would backfire and they'd be trapped while Dean was his usual over cocky self), is because their dad's friend worked at that particular dentention center and everything that happened was part of Dean's big plan to get rid of the ghost.

Now, if they'd ended up in a different place, one outside of the plan, then they'd be screwed because there's no way that a public defender would have been able to get them out of jail. And if they didn't have someone to assist in their escape, they'd more than likely be trapped for a longer period of time.

They also never expected the FBI to come into it as quickly as they did, which almost screwed up Dean's plan.

So I think your fic should be fine, but that's just me.

Damn, tough call. I'm kinda mostly a story integrity kind of person, so I don't think that changing it would be so bad.

On the other hand, if it mucks up your inspiration that is of course terrible too. (and honestly, if you took off on a very specific point I think that is totally valid as a story; after all you were working on what you knew at that particular point)

Maybe some tweaking could work? That they aren't afraid of the FBI/jail in general but about this particular FBI/jail because there is some demonic connection or they are on a tight schedule?

Or how about leaving it as it is and finish it for the big bang and then rewrite it the right way after the big bang?

Despite Dean's cockiness across the episode, you can tell that he was pretty surprised when the FBI turned up, but he hid it, like he normally does. Nothing has changed, if anything it's a little worse as they've escaped from a prison and from the FBI.(Yeah i know that doesn't make sense timeline wise).

They got caught only for the case, if they hadn't needed to have gone inside, they wouldn't have done it.

You can totally still make that work. They weren't afraid because they had an out. Once they were on the outside, Dean (who before was chafing at the bit after Nightshifter) is the one who says they need to keep an absolutely low profile....so clearly there is a LOT of worry about getting caught and locked up for real. And you can always add a throwaway line:

"Dean...this isn't like Green Valley. We get caught this time..."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got it, Sam. Don't need a college education for this one." etc.

Slap it with AU and keep it as it is. :0) Seriously if the show itself can go completely OOC (Hollywood Babylon) then you can too. In this ep at least they knew they had a way out. I mean they would probably look at things differently had the FBI really been hot on their trail straight after Nightshifter.

I mean if you don't reference any episodes after that then your Big Bang is really written as a coda to Nightshifter. I think that would be totally okay, you set the scene with your words, the readers knows that nothing after Nighshifter really happened in your fic. You're homefree. :0P

Seriously otherwise people ought to back and take down all the stories that no longer resonances with the current storyline of the show. They were in essence written before they knew what would happen, that doesn't mean they didn't capture Sam and Dean right, or that they are out of character. The are just right in character for what happened up to that point.

Uhm... I'll stop rambling now, but I don't think you have to worry about it. Otherwise we should all sit on our hands and wait until the entire series is finished before writing something. :0)

I agree with what others are saying - I don't think it's necessary to change it. They weren't afraid in this case because Deacon worked at the jail and they had an easy out. Even with that, you could see how unpleasantly surprised Dean was about the FBI's quick arrival. And I also agree that now that they've escaped from jail once, from custody at least twice (pilot and Ususual Suspects), and from the law in general on plenty of other occasions, Henriksen and co. are only going to increase their carefulness every time they cross paths. He's lost the boys twice now when they were practically in his hands, he gonna have a real bone to pick next time around.
