[FLocked] ALL MOOYOO'S FAULT.

I may have just done something stupid. Like create an SPN comm that could actually be for lost fic. Like maybe [livejournal.com profile] spnlostfic.

This post is FLocked because what with all the recent comm wank I'd rather some random person not stumble across this before I do anything real with it and then scream about copying that comm.

It's nothing against the mods or maintainers there, it's not their fault that most of their posters are a frightening level of batshit. I just think it would be nice to have a place where someone could say "Hey, does anyone remember that fic where the chick buys the Impala and Sam and Dean are haunting it?" (One Shot by [livejournal.com profile] trolllogicfics) and possibly get an answer to it. I know tons of people who avoid [livejournal.com profile] spnstoryfinders like the plauge because of all the requests for "all the sam/dean series fics you know" or "Any fics where Jared drugs and rapes Jensen?? Fluffy ending plez!" or the like.

I get rambley when I'm tired.

Yeah. So. What's the vote? Should I actually turn it into a comm or kill the place, move on and forget about it?

SQUEEEEEEE I got the book with the mail today. :0) :0)

I was under the impression that [livejournal.com profile] spnstoryfinders have no mods. Seriously that place is just full of crazy. *g*

Obviously I'm vouching for opening a new comm with the same premise as another comm but with less insane. I cannot see why. :0P

I swear, there are some post going to that comm that I DO NOT want to approve so i kinda leave them to rot in the que, some of the content actually makes my eyes bleed.

So as a mod of that other comm I say you should go for it.

Don't feel bad. Ally and I had the same thought a while ago. [livejournal.com profile] spn_findit. Though, we were going to expand the finding to all things spn. Like, "Does anyone remember the video set to...," or "I'm looking for a website that had..."

I don't remember why we didn't go through with it though. I think we just got distracted by something shiny. But the tags and everything were set up.

[identity profile] slytherinblack.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
At first I thought it was for SPN/Lost crossovers. *snerk*

I'd be happy to help you with it if you decide you want help. I'm probably the most anal of the mods at sn_slash since I'm usually the one to say "oh my GOD what's with the people changing their fonts to fugly? Can we have a rule about not changing your font?"

So yeah. *laughs* Offer of help if you needed it. Although half the ideas for stuff to do relate more to spnstoryfinders because if I was over there I'd index the popular rec requests and make people keep their requests short and to the point.

*is rambly this morning*

I like this idea. Lots and lots. Dooo eeeet.

[identity profile] jade-starlight.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I say go for it. It's gotten to the point where I'm afraid to post any searches to [livejournal.com profile] spnstoryfinders for fear that I'll catch the crazy. *shudders*

[identity profile] alistra.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
You know I really don't want to get into this discussion but I couldn't stop myself from commenting with: "Damn, that WAS an awesome story!" I think I may have to read it again. For about the eighth time. =)

[identity profile] jillybinks.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it might be a good idea. Might also be wanky too, but that never stopped me from using the site. I cannot stand [livejournal.com profile] spnstoryfinders for the exact reason that you stated, but it wasn't hard for me to join a few days ago to track down a particular lost fic. It was torture to comply with the rule to go back at least 3 months (I think that was it) and find possible similar requests, but in the end after skip eight billion, I gave up after only really getting about 3 weeks back. However, I got a really prompt and accurate response so in the end, it works. And I don't have them on my flist, so I don't have to deal with the idiocy.

I would say that it would be great to have the community if the rules are very specific (re: no general requests) and it's well moded.

[identity profile] resounding-echo.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
:incoherent noise of squee: Lately I've been trying to count how many posts were stupid rambly rec pleas and how many actually followed the rules of posting. I couldn't keep track, it upset me so much.

What pisses me off is that a few months ago one of my posts was rejected for submission (who knows why, it was simple and was about a specific fic) and then I see all the shit that gets posted--improper headings, poor spelling and punctuation and fucking biographies that hide the actual fic request--I'll stop.

So yes. I hope this comm works out.

[identity profile] mooyoo.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, nicely done. I'm glad I could be responsible for that :p

I think you can definitely go about it in a way that won't piss anyone else off. [livejournal.com profile] spnstoryfinders is obviously no longer abut just about finding lost fics, and if they want to let it continue being a comm for general fic searches and recs, while yours will be for specific story searches, that's fine. Nothing wrong with that (and I like the idea of tying it to [livejournal.com profile] spn_findit if they still want to get that comm going).

And let me take this opportunity to rant one more time: they have rules listed in the userinfo, I remember seeing a few posts back in the day reminding people of the rules and that the comm was for specific searches, and yet actual specific searches get lost in the midst of general rec searches. What's the point of having the community on moderation if you let all of this stuff get through?

Anyway, yeah. I think it's a good idea.

Yays!

And that is an awesome fic you linked.

YES PLEASE. :D I am scared of [livejournal.com profile] spnstoryfinders. D:

Oh thank GOD. Yes please ;)

*nods* This comm sounds like a very good idea. I would definitely join.

See, when I post at [livejournal.com profile] sv_inquiry looking for something? People always point me to it. But when I post at [livejournal.com profile] spnstoryfinders.... no one ever responds. So I don't even bother. What I want is an SPN fic-finding comm that gets results... and if weeding out the crazy causes more people to read the requests and answer my questions, then I'd be in favor of it.

[identity profile] crediniaeth.livejournal.com 2007-11-28 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
I know I'm behind the times (skip=400 WTF I miss one day?), but I whole-heartedly APPROVE of anything you set your mind to.
